Dr. Francisco Berger

Dr. Francisco J. Alvarez Berger is a board-certified veterinary medical oncologist with over 20 years of experience dedicated to the care of pets with cancer. He is passionate about providing compassionate, personalized treatment to every pet and family he works with.

Dr. Alvarez Berger completed his oncology residency and a Master’s degree in cancer research at The Ohio State University, where he later served as a Clinical Instructor in the Hematology and Oncology Service. During his time there, he focused on clinical research and teaching veterinary students, interns, and residents in the fields of hematology and oncology. Originally from Mexico, he graduated with honors from UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) and earned a Master’s degree in pathology. After several years in private practice in Mexico City, he relocated to the United States to pursue advanced training and specialization in veterinary oncology. From 2007 to 2025, he led the Oncology Service at Coral Springs Animal Hospital in Florida. In 2025, he founded Veterinary Cancer Health, a specialty practice focused on delivering expert, personalized cancer care for dogs and cats. He also serves as an associate professor of veterinary oncology at Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla in Mexico. He is also an active contributor to veterinary oncology through research publications, textbook chapters, and lectures at national and international conferences.

Outside of work, Dr. Alvarez Berger is a devoted husband and father who enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and their beloved pets, Lola, a Golden Retriever; Kiwi, a Golden Doodle; and Cash, a curious and charming cat. A true animal lover at heart, he brings the same compassion to his home as he does to his patients. He enjoys traveling with his family to explore new cultures and is also an avid runner who values staying active. Whether in the clinic or at home, Dr. Alvarez Berger is deeply committed to the well-being of animals and the families who love them.
